Edexcel IAL Maths is Pearson's International Advanced Level Mathematics qualification, designed for students studying internationally. It follows a modular structure, so the qualification is divided into individual units that students prepare for and sit separately.
At Mathlete, we're currently offering Pure Mathematics 1 and Pure Mathematics 2 as one combined course.
One of the biggest differences is the way the qualifications are structured and assessed. Edexcel IAL Maths follows a modular approach, with exams offered in three sessions each year. Cambridge International A Level Maths follows its own paper structure and has two main exam sessions each year.
Which one works better for you depends on how you prefer to study, your exam plans and which qualification your school or centre offers.
Edexcel IAL Maths has three exam sessions each year: January, June and October.
This gives students more flexibility when planning their exams and working through the different units of the qualification.
P1 and P2 are Pure Mathematics units within Edexcel IAL Maths.
P1 covers foundations including algebra and functions, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, differentiation and integration. P2 builds on these skills while introducing areas such as proof, sequences and series, and exponentials and logarithms.
At Mathlete, we're currently offering P1 and P2 together as one course.
P1 provides an important foundation for P2, so having a good understanding of P1 will make P2 much easier to follow.
That said, you don't need to treat them as two completely separate journeys. At Mathlete, we're combining P1 and P2 into one structured course, so the concepts can build naturally from one unit into the next.

Rather than teaching the two units as completely separate courses, we'll connect the concepts and take you through the Pure Mathematics content as one continuous learning journey.
Classes run Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6 PM to 7 PM.
The P1 + P2 course is planned to run from September to January, giving you a structured period to work through both Pure Mathematics units.
The syllabus code for Edexcel IAL P1 is WMA11/01, while the syllabus code for P2 is WMA12/01.
